KVAMSØY: The only island along the Sognefjord and a real treat for fjord swimmers.

The swim around Kvamsøy island is approximately 1.5 kilometres and if you swim it twice, the distance is perfect for fjord swimmers wanting to qualify for the Sognefjord Challenge crossing.

Four kayakers and seven swimmers took to the water on Saturday 18th July. The water was great. In keeping with what is becoming a tradition, the members of Sogn Fjord Swimming Club invited everyone afterwards to a swim around the island and a fjordside barbeque afterwards. The setting is perfect, and worth exploring. On the island, you can visit an old stone church from the Middle Ages.

Three newcomers from Vetlefjorden joined in this year too. Sturdy swimmers from Sogn fjordsymjeklubb comprised Marit Fjøsne, Simone Stibbe, Øydis Bøtun and Bernt Skogsrud. Making up the rest of the happy party were kayakers Andreas Ulvestad, Christian Gjeraker, Turid Cecilie Oppedal and Terje Eggum.
