On Sunday 9th July, 34 year old Sønnøve Cirotzki swam from Sogndal to Leikanger, a distance of 23 kilometres. She dived into Sogndalsfjord from Hafslund Hotel shortly after 6 o'clock in the morning and reached her destination of Leikanger Fjordhotel 8 hours and ten minutes later. Although the water was no warmer than 16 degrees, Sønnøve emerged from the water just as fresh and smiling as when she started her impressive swim. Sønnøve now holds the record for the longest stretch of fjord swum non-stop along the Sognefjord. She has now beaten the record of Lewis Gordon Pugh, who although he swam the whole of the Sognefjord in 2004, never swam a distance longer that 12 km in one stretch.

Sønnøve aims to swim most of the fjord arms of the mighty Sognefjord in preparation for her attempt to swim the English Channel at the end of August.
